Chicken Recall Expands as Tyson Foods Recalls 85 Million Pounds of Frozen Chicken

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced the recall of more than 2,000 pounds of frozen chicken meals due to a risk of listeria poisoning. The recall affects multiple brands of frozen chicken products, including Tyson Foods, Pilgrim's Pride, and Keystone Foods.

The affected products were produced between December 26, 2022, and April 13, 2023, and have been distributed nationwide. Consumers are urged to check their freezers for any of the recalled products and discard them immediately.

Listeriosis, the infection caused by Listeria monocytogenes, can cause serious illness, especially in pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In severe cases, it can lead to sepsis, meningitis, and even death.

The FSIS is urging consumers to take the following steps:

  • Discard any recalled chicken products immediately.
  • Clean and disinfect any surfaces that may have come into contact with the recalled products.
  • Contact their healthcare provider if they have consumed any of the recalled products and are experiencing symptoms of listeriosis.

The recall is ongoing, and the FSIS is working with industry partners to ensure that all affected products are removed from the market.
