As a Munchausen syndrome by proxy survivor, her childhood was marked by countless hospitalizations and unnecessary medical procedures orchestrated by her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. In 2015, Gypsy Rose's boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, murdered Dee Dee in a plot hatched by Gypsy Rose herself.

Gypsy Rose's story became a national sensation, drawing attention to the horrors of Munchausen syndrome by proxy and sparking a debate about parental manipulation and exploitation. After pleading guilty to second-degree murder, Gypsy Rose was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
