Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy Survivor Gypsy Rose Blanchard Released From Prison

A Journey of Survival, Resilience, and Justice

Gypsy Rose Blanchard's Story Captivated the Nation

Gypsy-Rose Alcida Blanchard-Anderson, born July 27, 1991, has endured an unimaginable life. As a Munchausen syndrome by proxy survivor, her childhood was marked by countless hospitalizations and unnecessary medical procedures orchestrated by her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. In 2015, Gypsy Rose's boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, murdered Dee Dee in a plot hatched by Gypsy Rose herself.

Gypsy Rose's story became a national sensation, drawing attention to the horrors of Munchausen syndrome by proxy and sparking a debate about parental manipulation and exploitation. After pleading guilty to second-degree murder, Gypsy Rose was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

On Thursday, July 14, 2023, at 03:30 AM local time, Gypsy Rose walked out of Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri, having served nearly eight years of her sentence. Her release marks a new chapter in her life, one filled with hope, healing, and the opportunity to put her past behind her.
